Ascoli Piceno Info is a website designed to provide information in English to people from around the world who wish to visit this beautiful city or who just want to know more about Ascoli Piceno. This is geared toward those who have searched other English-language websites for the lesser know areas of Italy and found them to be generally lacking in useful information. Our hope is that for those planning their next trip to the “bel paese” this will be a portal to entice you to visit the land of the Piceni.

Ascoli Piceno is situated in southern Marche, just north of the border with Abruzzo, and about twenty miles inland from the Adriatic Sea. The city is situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Fiume Tronto and Torrente Castellano, which have always provided it with a good defensive location.

Ascoli Piceno’s history predates the founding of Rome but was later conquered and ruled by the Roman Empire, which constructed the strategic Via Salaria from Rome to the Adriatic Sea by way of Ascoli Piceno. You would still travel this ancient route when coming to Ascoli Piceno by car from Rome. During her history Ascoli Piceno has been an independent city, as well as having been ruled by the Lombards, Francs, Holy Roman Empire and Napoleon while each of these groups have left a mark on the architecture of this vibrant city.

The architecture, the people, the wine and the food are all unique, yet provide a snapshot of all of the best that Italy has to offer. Whether you wish to study Medieval and Romanesque architecture or simply sit in one of the grand piazzas and enjoy a cappuccino while watching the vibrant city go by, you will not be disappointed by what Ascoli Piceno has to offer.
